“People always ask me, “What is it like? Tell me the story of the road!”

Well, in short, it’s, “Pack up a bag of shirts and shoes, lace up them sneaks and play the damn blues. You’ve got to drive, eat, sound check and sleep, get back in the van and play for the peeps ...”

Beyond road clichés, how you make it is an important question. Now more than ever, the on-ramp to the success highway lies literally through the road. I hear all the time that the modern music industry is like the Wild West. I agree: The game is wide open, the rules have changed; in fact, there are no rules. Head out on the dusty trail and see what you can turn your future into.

Everyone’s path is different. Some make it overnight on YouTube if you’ve got a hit. We can look at the successes of musicians like Lana Del Ray and other YouTube sensations that incubated and blew up online and say, “Damn, that’s easy.”

It really can happen that way, true true, but then again, you’ve got to ask yourself, is this a lasting kind of success?

My short answer is no. The key to long-term success in this crazy-ass business lies in developing a fan base, connecting with people. And where better to do this than in every freaking venue and club across this country?

I spent eight years in the back of a van. First the old maroon Ford cargo van in which we traversed this great country, coast to coast for two years. Later, when that beast had too many miles on it, we started renting Budget vans. We upgraded to a cargo van driven by our stage tech, Nate Solod, rest his good soul, and a 12-passenger for the band driven by our good TM, Richie DeBraccio.”

What’s cookin’ Fam! I hope this finds you all well. Spring has Sprung and with it a new breath of fresh air and inspiration. We wrapped our winter Fixin To Die tour with a grand slamming return to our old Chicago and Minneapolis haunts, The Metro and First Ave. It had been years since we played the Metro and honestly it’s felt like years since we played a proper club show in Chi-town. The crowd was feeling St Paddy’s Day loose and from the first note to the last, the room was blazing. Green beer and all types of green! The spring finds us with some great weekend shows lined up coast to coast and as festival season gets nearer we look forward to bringing this slamming set we’ve been rocking to the big stages. Check the tour dates for exact shows and tix in your neck of the woods.I’m really pumped about getting down to the Hangout Fest for the first time and letting it loose on the Gulf Coast in addition to returns at Wakarusa and Summer Camp. You can be sure plenty of our friends will be sharing the stages at these festivals and I can only imagine the jams and good times to come.I’ve got some down time before these hits so I’m settling into the home style groove, spending time with the Fam, cooking it up, doing a lot of writing and shedding for the big shows to come. East coast living it up and splitting time between Boston and NYC. Livin it and lovin it ya know!?So, before I clock out and get back to practice, a couple more things on the hot pan right now:My new signature series Special Sauce Burnet sunglasses from Kaenon has been released and these shades are really superb. Kaenon lenses are the best you can get. The Special Sauce shades are polarized which is a must for fishing and kicking it at the beach. They look fly as can be so check them out. Also slated for release this spring is my new G. Love “Black and Blue” signature series guitar from East Wood guitars. This replica of the infamous ‘59 Airline 3 P/U is coming out hot. The color scheme is inspired by my blue sparkle Crucianelli guitar that has been my main guitar since ‘93. It’s really crazy, I’ve been searching for this sound my whole career and all of a sudden I’ve got the guitar that does it all. It’s got the crunch of an old pawn shop guitar, the sustain of a Les Paul, the look of a 60’s hot rod muscle car and it plays like butter. It’s coming soon! So stay tuned!!Thanks to G. loves Hot Sauce for presenting our tour and remember you can hook up some sauce at www.gloveshotsauce.com but please remember…put it on your food, not your baby!!!Big shots out to Kristy Lee and Scott H Bihram for joining us on tour this winter and especially big shots to all of y’all for the love, energy and support. The shows have been amazing because y’all brought the heat like HOT SAUCE. Keep pouring it on and I’m gonna keep serving it up. The grill is hot so let’s keep on cooking. See you soon!
Your friend,
G. Love
